Chance to Verify: EC Begins Voter Register Display for Previously Left Out Stations

Kampala
As the election period draws ever close, the Electoral Commission (EC) has of today May 5 , started the display of the national voter register for the 620 polling stations that has missed out on the earlier scheduled start date.
The delayed polling stations included the Special Interest Groups-including Youths, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Older Persons. This critical exercise, initially scheduled to start on April 25, 2025, will now run until May 15, 2025, giving voters 21 days to confirm their eligibility and correct any errors before the 2026 General Elections.
This exercise is intended to give eligible voters the opportunity to verify the accuracy of their personal information, confirm their photographs, and report any irregularities such as duplicate entries, deceased persons, or individuals registered in the wrong parish,
the EC stated
EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi emphasized the importance of public participation, noting that the display period is the final opportunity for voters to ensure their names and details are accurate. He also urged the public to flag underage registrants, report the deceased who still appear on the list, and highlight cases of multiple registrations.
“The display exercise allows voters to confirm their actual names and photographs, report those they consider to be underage, the deceased who still appear on the list, but also flag cases of multiple registration,” Mucunguzi said.
With EC staff stationed at all 38,315 polling stations nationwide from 8am to 6pm daily-including weekends and public holidays-the Commission is calling on all Ugandans to take advantage of this window to verify their details. Complaints and objections raised during the exercise will be forwarded to the relevant tribunals to ensure the integrity of the final voters register.
The display also includes special registers for marginalized groups, with the EC highlighting efforts to enhance inclusivity through the demarcation and reorganization of polling stations and the compilation of updated registers for PWDs and other special interest groups.
“This is the final process that enables the Commission to have a credible election,” Mucunguzi said. “The display of the register at each polling station ensures transparency and accuracy.”
The EC has also published lists of citizens who were registered and verified by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) but did not indicate their preferred polling stations. These individuals are advised to check at their parish or ward headquarters and select a polling station if necessary.
